 Join us for a week of $1 Dance Classes at the American Rhythm Center! This All-4-One features more than 50 classes for all ability levels in a range of genres and styles, including tap, tai chi, capoeira, modern, ballet, Zumba, flamenco, hip hop, Afro-dancehall, footworking, break dancing, house, popping, jazz and more.

Teaching the classes are professionals representing the ARC’s diverse community partners and other affiliated groups, including Chicago Human Rhythm Project, A&A Ballet , Kalapriya Center for Indian Performing Arts, Gang of Toes, Mandala Arts, M.A.D.D. Rhythms, Blu Rhythm Collective & the Crew., The Happiness Club and Movement Revolution Dance Crew, Bollywood Groove as well as independent artists including Formanda Colibri, Tre Daniels, Donnetta LilBit Jackson, JC Hopkins, Nadell Jackson, Domé Lorusso, Nico Rubio, Monyett Beastly Crump and more.

The American Rhythm Center’s “All-4-One” takes place Tuesday, September 5 through Monday, September 11 at the American Rhythm Center in the Fine Arts Building!

Extraordinary foot drummers and percussive arts masters from around the globe share the Studebaker Theater stage for JUBA!

This concert features performances by some of the country’s leading masters of tap and percussive dance, including a world premiere by CHRP’s new Artist in Residence, Dani Borak; solo performances by former Tap Scholars Jumaane Taylor and former CHRP ensemble member Tristan Bruns; STOMP alumna and Broadway hoofer (Shuffle Along) Lisa LaTouche; and many more.

JUBA! performances are on Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22 and both shows are completely distinct. For more information about the line-up for Friday’s performance, or to purchase tickets, click here. More information about Saturday’s line-up will be available on this page soon.

The JUBA! concerts are the culminating events of Chicago’s prized citywide festival, Rhythm World. Rhythm World runs July 17–23 and includes scores of courses, master classes, and workshops, the 17th Annual Youth Tap Ensemble Conference, a brand new STOMP intensive focusing on body drumming and found-object percussion and teacher certification. Tireless: A Tap Dance Experience Curated by Michelle Dorrance

For the first time ever, astonishing tap artists from our backyard and beyond come together in a program curated and introduced by the “tireless ambassador of tap” Michelle Dorrance (The New York Times). TIRELESS exhibits the endless talent, depth, and perseverance of the international tap community.

A Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award recipient and MacArthur ‘Genius’ Fellow, Dorrance introduces this Pillow-exclusive engagement featuring tap dancer and bassist couple Reona and Takashi Seo of Japan in AUN; Chicago-based choreographer and performer Jumaane Taylor and his ensemble work Supreme Love; Joe Orrach of San Francisco in his solo performance entitled In My Corner; and tap dancing siblings Joseph and Josette Wiggan of Los Angeles.

The Entire M.A.D.D. Rhythms Family @ Big Deal: 13th Annual Performing Arts Gala

May 15, 2017 will mark a brand new milestone for gem of Chicago as executive producer Jimalita Hunter and Harold Washington Cultural Center host “Big Deal”, a theatrical fundraising gala. This production is a continuation of its Broadway in Bronzeville series. The gala will feature songs and scenes from over 10 top Broadway and off Broadway productions, including 42nd Street, Othello, Fosse, Phantom of the Opera, and more. This marks the kick off to the Harold Washington Cultural Center’s 13th year anniversary celebration. Each year we present our alumni and current members of Broadway in Bronzeville/ Off the Streets on the Stage programs. We also have an awards ceremony and pre-event reception. The goal is to raise funds to operate and expand our performing arts program for 2017-2018. Donell Jones, Louis Car, Josilyn Martin, Jahkil Jackson, and Betty Magness are listed as awardees.
