The series completes its third year with the grand finale on Friday, June 2, at the Studebaker Theater. This event will feature ALL five dance companies and, like all STOMPING GROUNDS events, is completely free and open to the public.

This Thursday, June 1st we are hosting Tap classes with Bril Barrett from 6:00-8:00pm at the studio! The 6:00 class will be Intermediate and the 7:00 class will be Advanced. You may take both classes if this is appropriate to your level.
Classes are $20.00 each for non-Ensemble dancers.
This class is available and open to ALL ATL tappers.
Bril Barrett is from Chicago and is a fabulous Tap dancer who regularly performs with M.A.D.D. Rhythms and teaches at many festivals and workshops across the country.

STOMPING GROUNDS is a free two-month citywide celebration of authentic, rhythmic dance companies from a variety of world cultures, including American tap, Spanish, Mexican, African, Chinese, and Irish dance. The series culminates with the grand finale at the Studebaker Theater on Friday, June 2.

The series visits Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood on Wednesday, May 24 at the Garfield Park Conservatory. This event will feature Ensemble Espanol Spanish Dance Theater, alongside Chicago Human Rhythm Project and the Mexican Folkloric Dance Company. Like all STOMPING GROUNDS events, it is completely free and open to the public.

Each STOMPING GROUNDS event, known as a “Performalogue”, features the performers and Artistic Directors of selected companies, in a narrated performance and Q&A with the audience. And each event features a different lineup! For a list of locations and lineups, please see below.

In an art form where women have played second fiddle to men time and again for decades (and in light of a recent surge in women’s movements of all kinds) PERSIST celebrates the unique, varied, artistic voices of six female choreographers including world premiere works by Kristi Burris, Megan Davis, and Patti Vickerman alongside returning audience favorites including Star Dixon’s critically acclaimed Ultralight Beam. From driving, pulsating rhythms to delicate, hopeful gestures, PERSIST promises to be another stunning example of Chicago tap dance excellence.

The Entire M.A.D.D. Rhythms Family @ Big Deal: 13th Annual Performing Arts Gala

May 15, 2017 will mark a brand new milestone for gem of Chicago as executive producer Jimalita Hunter and Harold Washington Cultural Center host “Big Deal”, a theatrical fundraising gala. This production is a continuation of its Broadway in Bronzeville series. The gala will feature songs and scenes from over 10 top Broadway and off Broadway productions, including 42nd Street, Othello, Fosse, Phantom of the Opera, and more. This marks the kick off to the Harold Washington Cultural Center’s 13th year anniversary celebration. Each year we present our alumni and current members of Broadway in Bronzeville/ Off the Streets on the Stage programs. We also have an awards ceremony and pre-event reception. The goal is to raise funds to operate and expand our performing arts program for 2017-2018. Donell Jones, Louis Car, Josilyn Martin, Jahkil Jackson, and Betty Magness are listed as awardees.
