M.A.D.D. Rhythms @ CP10: CityPoint Community Church’s 10th Anniversary Service

Ten years ago today with the prayer and diligence of Pastor Demetrius Davis, Karla Evans Davis and eight other individuals, CityPoint Community Church (originally Proviso Community Church) was founded. The vision was to plant a new church community that recaptured the heart of the original church in the Book of Acts. The primary focus was community and commitment to learning and living the principles of the Bible.

From a school auditorium in the west suburbs to posh spaces in the South Loop, we have seen much growth and much transition over the years. All in all, we remain committed to being “simply caring, simply community, and simply church.”

Join us on Sunday, August 12th at 10a as we celebrate this milestone in our church’s history. Pastor Wendell Martin will be joining us as the guest speaker, Jessica Love will lead us in worship, M.A.D.D. Rhythms will perform a dope tap dance, and we’ll have catered bites by Zita Cooks, photo opportunities, and more.

We hope to see you there! #HappyAnniversaryCityPoint #CP10

M.A.D.D. Rhythms Bronzeville: The HWCC Crew @ Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s Ellis Park Performance

m2072_SITP2018_Facebook_02Ellis_Greenshow_1200x630-v4

oin us for one of our city’s favorite summer traditions! Now in its seventh year, the FREE FOR ALL Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks tour heads out to neighborhood parks across the north, west, and south sides of the city with a 75-minute abridged production. At each location, a specially equipped truck rolls into the park, a stage unfolds, and a company of professional actors shares Shakespeare’s magical comedy with families and neighbors of all ages.

The citywide tour is made possible by a renewed civic, cultural, and corporate partnership between Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the City of Chicago, Chicago Park District, Boeing, and BMO Harris Bank. Since the inception of the Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks program seven years ago, more than 130,000 Chicagoans have taken advantage of free performances in their communities.

For the first time since the establishment of the Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks tour in 2012, Artistic Director Barbara Gaines is adapting and staging this production for audiences across Chicago. Gaines brings a vision of merriment to the enchanting story of four young lovers who set out for the forest, where an amateur theater troupe is rehearsing. When the Fairy Court discovers these mortals in their midst, mischief ensues until dawn.

On the occasion of the Illinois Bicentennial, Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks will expand its summer tour with FREE SHAKESPEARE at Glen Oak Park in Peoria, Illinois. Duplicating its successful community engagement efforts piloted in Chicago over the first seven seasons of the program, the Theater makes its first foray beyond city limits to work in partnership with Peoria residents and community organizations, reaching new audiences from neighborhoods across the down-state region.
